Tom Sammons is a member of 3Com’s Technical Marketing Engineering (TME) team, providing technical marketing support to 3Com sales teams around the world with VCX IP Telephony technical documentation, demonstrations, webinars, training, and presentations. Tom started with 3Com in 2000 as a VoIP software engineer, joined the global sales Solutions Architecture team in 2004, and transitioned to the TME team in 2007. Tom is a co-author of the original IBM Redbook on IBM System i IP Telephony and has worked with IBM and 3Com Unified Communications on System i and Power Systems since 2006, in addition to keeping up with the whole line of VCX products.

Tom has a software engineering background in communications technology, starting with a Computer Engineering degree in 1986 from Florida Institute of Technology that included 3 terms as a co-op engineering student as an IBM employee in Poughkeepsie, NY. Starting at E-Systems in 1986, Tom led teams in the development of embedded software systems for remote airborne control and satellite communications. In 1991, Tom’s focus turned to SS7, Intelligent Networks, and then to VoIP protocols, systems, and applications at Cable & Wireless, Stratus, and Call Technologies, successively. Outside of work, Tom enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with his family in the Northern Virginia area.
